Q – Can you tell me over the phone how much the damp / plastering works will cost?
A – No there are many issues which can affect the prices and only a site survey can best determine the required works, there are also the issues with parking, access to the property, removing the waste etc.
Q – How do I pay for the works?
A – We usually ask for a deposit with the balanced paid at the completion of the works.
Q - How long do I need to wait before decorating the walls and ceilings following plastering/rendering.
A – Finish plaster applied to plasterboard either on the ceilings or on wall partitions dries very quickly and can usually be decorated the next day.
However rendering on walls should not be allowed to dry too quickly otherwise it may crack and a period of 1-2 weeks minimum should be allowed, this obviously depends on how thick the render was applied and the ambient temperature.
Q – Can I paint directly onto new plasterwork?
A – This is ill advised as you will find it very difficult; the answer is to apply your first coat in the form of a mist coat which is your choice of paint watered down considerably.
Q – If I want to re-plaster a room do I need to remove the carpets?
A – We always advise this to be done, other firms may say otherwise, however when the old renders are hacked off and new renders are applied water needs to be used to wet walls and is obviously in the mortar.
Water or wet render can work its way into the edge of the carpets and will not be discovered until after the coverings are removed.
Q – What are the best materials to be used?
A – It's always best to render and set brick walls especially in kitchen, bathrooms and basements. Carlite bonding should never be used in any areas where dampness could be an issue.
